Giles Puckle will be leaving Bute House at the end of this academic year to take up his first headship at The Ryleys in Cheshire from September 2026.
Giles has been a wonderful addition to the Bute community over the past four years and a fantastic colleague to work with. He has contributed enormously to school life, both in and beyond the classroom, and has played a significant role in shaping the experience of our pupils and staff alike. While we will be very sorry to see him go, this is a richly deserved next step and one for which he is more than ready.
This move also marks an exciting new chapter for Giles and his family, as they relocate to Cheshire, where his wife grew up. I know you will join me in wishing them all every happiness as they make this transition.
At Bute, we are proud to develop and support talented educators and leaders, and it is always a privilege to see members of our senior team go on to lead their own schools. Giles leaves with our warmest thanks and every good wish for the future.
Giles has shared a few words about his time at Bute below:
“The last four years at Bute have been a truly defining chapter in my career, and I am enormously proud of what we have achieved over this time. I will carry so many highlights with me — not least the magnificent residential trips, which capture something essential about the Bute House spirit: the courage, camaraderie and joy that the girls bring to everything they do.
Behind everything that makes Bute House so special is an extraordinary staff body — dedicated, professional and genuinely devoted to the girls in their care. Watching three members of staff playing Irish folk music to the girls during an assembly to celebrate St Patrick’s Day today was a perfect example of this!
Moving on to headship is an incredibly exciting prospect, and I know that my time at Bute will always be central to how I think about, and try to shape excellent education. The values, relationships and experiences I take from here are ones I will draw on throughout the rest of my career.”
